Memorial Scholarship

 

Scholarship Criteria and application for 2024 scholarships will be available November 1, 2023. Applications are closed for 2023 at this time.

Donations will be graciously accepted at this time and can be made online with the link below or by mail at Get Behind the Badge Scholarship Fund, 538 South Yearling Road, Suite 103, Columbus, OH 43213.


This Memorial Scholarship Fund is established as a division of Get Behind The Badge, a 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donations are tax deductible in accordance with federal tax law. 100% of all donations to the Scholarship Fund go solely to the Scholarship Program.

Receipts for tax purposes are sent via US Mail within two weeks of donation. Please consider asking if your employer participates in a gift-matching program. Columbus Police Officer James Strozyk

Get Behind the Badge and the family of James Strozyk are pleased to announce the establishment of the James Strozyk Memorial Scholarship.

About Jim:

Jim was an amazing husband, father and grandfather. He served the community through being a Pastor and then becoming a Police Officer for the city of Columbus for 17 years. He had an outgoing spirit and a heart for helping anyone in need, thus inspiring this scholarship.

  • Interests: Golf, music, hockey, Pittsburgh PA (his birthplace) sports teams, Coors light and cigars

  • Careers: Pastor, construction building houses, Police Officer

  • Family was always important and it showed through all the gatherings, parties and cookouts because children were always welcomed and he tried to be sure there were activities to entertain them.

  • Examples of his giving heart:

    -Hosted a group of Asian exchange students providing food and shelter for a week. He was proud to show them his hometown of Pittsburgh, PA.

    -Giving of gift cards to the employees at the Tim Horton’s location he stopped at every day to pick up coffee for his coworker and himself.

    -Never passed up The Salvation Army Red Kettles.

    -Made and donated Cornhole boards to any fundraiser that needed auction items.

    -While a Pastor in Somerset, PA he helped facilitate rebuilding of homes after a tornado through the relief fund of the Church. He also helped with actual construction as needed.

    -Helped family and friends using his construction knowledge with house projects.
